Salomon Rondon is set to sign for CSKA Moscow after Wolverhampton Wanderers opted to bring Willian Jose to Molineux instead, as reported by Soccer.ru.
He might still be awaiting his first goal for the Black Country giants but Willian Jose has already proved his worth under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Real Sociedad loanee boasts the kind of strength and presence that the waifish teenager Fabio Silva simply cannot match, filling a Raul Jimenez-shaped void in Wolves’ frontline in impressive style during clashes with Arsenal and Leicester City.
As it stands, you won’t find many Wolves fans wishing they had prioritised Rondon instead, even if the Venezuela international has something Jose does not – a proven track-record in the Premier League.
The Mirror (13 December, page 66) reported that Wolves had expressed an interest in the former Newcastle and West Brom targetman.
31-year-old Rondon was looking for a route back to Europe after two seasons in China, having joined Dalian Yifang in a £16 million deal in 2019.

But it seems that a man who once scored a hat-trick of headers during his time at West Brom will be heading to Moscow rather than Molineux.
Talks regarding a move to CSKA are underway, with Rondon expected to undergo a medical in the near future.
CSKA are second in the Russian Premier League, behind Rondon’s former club Zenit St Petersburg.
