According to Paolo Bargiggia, Lorenzo Insigne would be willing to follow Maurizio Sarri to Tottenham if the Italian ends up in north London.
The former Chelsea manager is said to be among the candidates to replace José Mourinho, according to Calciomercato.
If he does end up being hired by Daniel Levy, then Tottenham could land themselves a very good forward in Insigne.
In quotes relayed by Area Napoli, Bargiggia said: “The future of Insigne could travel on the same tracks as that of Sarri : the offensive winger has found himself very well with the coach and would be willing to follow him to Rome or Tottenham or some other destination.”
If this does happen, then it should delight Tottenham fans.
Insigne has proven himself to be a wonderful goalscorer throughout his career, netting 166 goals in 513 appearances in total.
At 29 years of age, he’s showing no signs of slowing down either.
So far this season, the 40-cap Italy international has scored an impressive 17 goals in 43 games, while also recording nine assists.
While there’s no doubting his quality, we’re not sure he’d be a regular in the starting XI.
Why? Well, 36 of Insigne’s 43 appearances this season have come on the left flank, which is where Heung-min Son often resides.
In that respect, one of them would have to relocate if they were to both be named in the starting XI under Sarri.
You could argue that depth is key in modern-day football, what with the amount of games there are nowadays.
However, Steven Bergwijn also tends to play on the left, so he would also have to be thought about if Levy sanctioned a deal for Insigne.
Ultimately, while he’s a great forward, we’d probably leave the Italian in Naples if we were Sarri, rather than bring him to north London.
It simply isn’t a position of priority for Spurs right now, whereas a new right-back and centre-back most certainly are.
