Tottenham Hotspur got out of prison in a massive way a little earlier on Sunday.
The Lilywhites were staring down the barrel of a humiliating FA Cup elimination at home to Morecambe.
However, three goals in the final 15 minutes saw Tottenham progress into the fourth round of the competition with a 3-1 victory.
Somewhat tellingly, Antonio Conte’s outfit didn’t equalise until after the Italian manager introduced Lucas Moura and Harry Kane, two players the trainer had been trying to preserve seemingly.
Anthony O’Connor escaped Japhet Tanganga to fire the League One opposition into a surprise lead from a corner.
However, that corner stemmed from Joe Rodon clearing the football out of play and, according to Football London, the Wales international – a £15 million signing in 2020 – was upset with goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Alasdair Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham, wrote that Rodon could be seen ‘complaining’ about his teammate on the field following a failure to come for the ball, forcing the defender to concede the corner which the visitors ultimately scored from.
Conte is reportedly yet to be convinced by Atalanta loanee Gollini – signed by Fabio Paratici last summer – and you can understand why.
So much of stellar goalkepeing involves good decision making and you have to say, Gollini’s is questionable.
The former Aston Villa stopper is nowhere near to challenging Hugo Lloris for the number one shirt and after seven months, that’s a solid indication that he isn’t Spurs’ long-term option.
