Reported Newcastle United target Ross Barkley has been put up for sale by Chelsea, according to the Guardian.
Chelsea are looking to invest heavily this summer, with Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz all on their radar.
The planned spending spree could be partly paid for through player sales, and Newcastle target Barkley is named as one of five first-team squad members who could be offloaded in the latest reports.
That could be good news for Newcastle, who are apparently keeping tabs on the England international’s situation.
The Telegraph suggested last month that Newcastle would make a move for Barkley if their potential new owners come in and appoint Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle are expected to become one of the richest clubs in world football if their takeover goes through, so affording Barkley should be no problem.
It is not clear how much Chelsea would want for the midfielder, who they paid £15 million for in 2018 (BBC), but it is unlikely he would be outside of Newcastle’s price-range.
If Barkley was brought to Newcastle he could offer them creativity and power in central midfield, and he would surely be an upgrade on most their current options in the position.
