Tottenham Hotspur survived a massive scare on Saturday.

Spurs suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, ending a four-match winning streak in the Premier League.

Fortunately for Tottenham, though, Arsenal, their biggest rival in the race for Champions League qualification, failed to capitalise.

Later in the afternoon, the Gunners lost at Southampton by the same scoreline.

It was a sloppy and uncharacteristic display from the Lilywhites against Albion, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min anonymous for large periods of the game.

Both are Tottenham’s best players by a distance and it goes to illustrate that if you keep both of them quiet, Conte’s outfit struggle in a massive way.

Even Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is reported to have been frustrated by his two teammates.

According to Football London, the Denmark international ‘made his feelings clear’ to Son and Kane on a number of occasions, due to a lack of options he had to pass the pass.

Bizarrely, Hojbjerg was one of his side’s more creative players and flashed a number of good balls into the box against the Seagulls.

However, that isn’t his style at all and it illustrates what a difficult time that Spurs’ real creative players had against Brighton.

Tottenham still have a three-point cushion over Arsenal, but Manchester United, who beat Norwich City, are now firmly back in the race and above the Gunners on goal difference.
