The Burnley defender Ben Gibson could be bound for Norwich City – despite talks with Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, according to The Sun.
The newspaper claims Norwich have come up with a surprise, permanent offer for Gibson, which will see them take on his wages after failing with lower offers earlier this summer.
It adds that both Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest wanted to take the 27-year-old – for whom Burnley paid Boro a reported fee of £15m two years ago – on lesser terms.
And the suggestion is that things may yet get worse for Forest, who could now receive an improved offer from Burnley for their own centre-back, Joe Worrall.
It is unclear how much Norwich are supposed to be paying for Gibson, who was called up by England in March 2017.
Gibson has only played six times for Burnley and is said to have fallen out with the club’s manager, Sean Dyche, who allowed him to train back at Middlesbrough in the second half of last season.

Norwich will face both Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest this season, having failed to survive their first campaign back in the Premier League.
