Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport claim Gini Wijnaldum wants to join Roma as he has a ‘desire’ to play under Jose Mourinho – amid reports Everton, West Ham and Wolves are keen on luring the PSG man back to England.

Wijnaldum, 31, joined PSG on a free transfer in 2021 from Liverpool – after winning the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield. But he struggled at PSG, scoring three goals in 38 games. He started only 22 of those games.

An immediate move is on the cards. CDS claim that Wijnaldum wants to join Roma in order to play under the guidance of Mourinho. That is, despite reports Everton, West Ham and Wolves all want the Dutchman this summer.

However, the report claims PSG may have to facilitate a move given his £147k-a-week wages, after tax. Wijnaldum has a contract at PSG until the summer of 2024. A summer move is likely, but it appears Roma is his preferred destination.

Wijnaldum wants to join Roma with Everton and West Ham keen

A move to Roma, to play under Mourinho for a club in the Europa League, and live in Italy, is clearly attractive. Roma are about to sign Paulo Dybala and that will also be tempting for the midfielder.

He will want regular game time ahead of the World Cup and he would get that at Roma. A move to Everton will surely be off the cards, given his Liverpool allegiance. West Ham might tempt Wijnaldum, the chance to live in London.

The Hammers are in Europe, and need more midfield depth after losing Mark Noble. So, a move to the Hammers will surely appeal to Wijnaldum – but Roma are easily the most-attractive, best-positioned club to get him.
