Nikola Maksimovic is far from happy with Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso and, according to Calciomercato, his agent is now considering an offer from Everton.
While the £13 million-rated Serbian international spoke in glowing terms about his former Stadio San Paolo boss Carlo Ancelotti, it seems he does not share the same close bond with the Italian’s successor.
Maksimovic was left out of Gattuso’s starting XI for the 3-1 Champions League round-of-16 defeat to Barcelona.
And, according to Calciomercato, he was far from happy to learn that he would be watching on from the sidelines at the Camp Nou.
That, the report adds, is one of the main reasons why the former Torino stopper has decided against extending a contract which expires in 2021.
Gazzetta dello Sport backed up those claims last week, adding that Napoli owner Aurelio di Laurentiis had refused to meet his demands for a pay-rise, which would have increased his wages to £35,000-a-week.
As a result, Maksimovic’s agent, Fali Ramadani, is now mulling over an offer that would see Maksimovic reunite with Ancelotti at Everton.
“The rebirth came with Ancelotti,” the 28-year-old told Radio Kiss Kiss, via Football Italia, in 2018.
“On the first day, we talked and we understood each other well. I understood what he wanted.”
It is no secret that Everton are still in the market for a central defender capable of replacing former loan star Kurt Zouma, who returned to Chelsea 14 months ago. Links with Gabriel Magalhaes, Jean-Clair Todibo and many more have come and gone since the start of April.
Calciomercato adds that Everton are not the only Premier League club to make an offer for Maksimovic.
The other might just be Arsenal, given that CalcioNapoli24 linked the Gunners with the Serb recently.
