Reported Newcastle United transfer target Mykhaylo Mudryk wants to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs in GiveMeSport.

Jacobs has said that Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mudryk has his heart set on a move to Arsenal despite interest from the Gunners’ Premier League rivals Newcastle.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has added that Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans also wants to make the move to Arsenal.

Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain all want to sign Mudryk.

Mykhaylo Mudryk wants Arsenal, not Newcastle

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Newcastle are very much not the frontrunners for Mudryk, who has got his heart set on Arsenal, a bit like Tielemans has got his heart set on Arsenal. But, with both Tielemans and Mudryk, Arsenal simply haven’t bid at this point.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our view, if Mykhaylo Mudryk wants to join Arsenal and not Newcastle United, then the Gunners will be able to secure the services of the Ukraine international winger, as long as they pay what Shakhtar Donetsk want for him.

According to Ukrainian journalist Viktor Vatsko, Mudryk has a €150million (£130million) release clause in his contract.

Now, we do not think that Arsenal will be willing to or able to pay that kind of money for a 21-year-old, but Shakhtar could ask for a bit less.

Mudryk has scored seven goals in 11 Ukrainian Premier League starts and has scored three goals and given two assists in six UEFA Champions League matches for Shakhtar this season.
