According to RMC Sport, Lyon have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the first leg of their Europa League Quarter-Final clash with West Ham.

What’s the story?

Well, after losing Maxence Caqueret to injury, Peter Bosz will now be without Karl Toko Ekambi as well after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The Cameroon international – who was actually offered to West Ham in 2020 – is a key player for Lyon, and he will be missed greatly.

So far this season, Ekambi has scored 13 goals in 31 appearances, while also providing five assists.

Nobody wants to see people testing positive for COVID-19 or picking up injuries, although David Moyes may be secretly delighted that neither Ekambi nor Caqueret can play in the first leg.

Caqueret is set to miss the second leg after undergoing an operation on his knee, although Ekambi should be back for the clash in France.

West Ham have golden chance against Lyon

In our view, West Ham have to come flying out of the blocks, as they have a fantastic opportunity to put some distance between themselves and Lyon in the first leg.

As aforesaid, Caqueret and Ekambi are missing, while the east Londoners will have the backing of the London Stadium behind them.

With these factors in mind, the Irons are well placed to take a healthy lead with them to France in the second leg.

Having said that, the main thing is to just stay in the tie, like West Ham managed to do after the first leg defeat against Sevilla in the last round.

Whatever happens, it should be another exciting spectacle.
