KV Oostende striker Fashion Sakala is keen to play Champions League football with Rangers but French giants Lille have now entered the race for his signature, as reported by the Daily Record.

When there’s a contract expiring, you can bet your bottom dollar that Rangers are aware of it.

In recent times, the Glasgow giants have snapped up Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and Scott Wright on bargain deals, with reports suggesting that Sakala could be about to follow in their footsteps.

The jet-heeled Zambian is due to become a free agent in July and a glut of goals – seven in his last seven games and 13 overall – have done his hopes of a big summer move no harm at all.

The Record claims that Sakala is interested in joining Steven Gerrard’s Premiership leaders. The versatile forward is allegedly intrigued by the prospect of playing Champions League football in that royal blue shirt.

Rangers will secure their place in Europe’s elite club competition should they survive a gruelling qualification process. Considering Gerrard’s remarkable record on the continent, don’t bet against Rangers making trips to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich next term.

The Record does add, however, that the Gers will face a battle for Sakala’s signature with Lille also in the race.

Les Dogues are currently top of the Ligue 1 table – ahead of perennial champions Paris Saint-Germain – and have a remarkable track record when it comes to unearthing attacking gems.

Sakala, should he seal a summer switch to the Stade Pierre Mauroy, will be tasked with emulating the likes of Rafael Leao, Eden Hazard and Nicolas Pepe.
