The Express claim Newcastle defender Jamal Lewis is set to move to Turkey and move to Trabzonspor on loan – after rejecting a deadline-day move to Championship side Birmingham. He could be left out of the 25-man squad.
Lewis, 24, has struggled to hold down a place at Newcastle since swapping East Anglia for Tyneside in the summer of 2020, for a fee of £13.5million (Express). He has played just 32 times for Newcastle in 18 months.
The Northern Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order even further, now. That is after The Toon lured Aston Villa ace Matty Targett to the club on loan until the end of the season – he will be first choice.
It was reported on deadline day and reiterated by The Express that Lewis was offered on loan to Birmingham – but having rejected the move, he is in danger of failing to be a part of Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad.
Now, Lewis is being offered an escape route for the rest of the season with the Turkish window still open. Trabzonspor want Lewis on loan, a club that currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Turkish SuperLig.

Not just because he is going to be left out of the 25-man squad, perhaps a reason why Jeff Hendrick forced through a move to QPR. But also, because Trabzonspor is a hugely exciting opportunity for Lewis.
Sitting so far clear at the top of the league already, Trabzonspor offers Lewis the chance to win a league title. The Turkish league leaders are also in the last 16 of the Turkish Cup. A brilliant move for the ex-Norwich man.
