Bernard is set to leave Everton and complete a potential £4 million move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr before the January transfer window slams shut, according to Fussball Transfers.
The Toffees were hoping for a £9 million windfall but, while Bernard looks likely to depart for a much lower fee, Everton can take some consolation in knowing that a tidy profit will soon be heading their way.
The Brazil international arrived on a free transfer from Shakthar Donetsk after all. And £4 million is better than nothing.
Furthermore, Everton will be thrilled to get his £120,000-a-week pay packet off their wage bill.
In truth, Bernard has never really looked like justifying his contract on the blue half of Merseyside, scoring just five times in 67 Premier League games.
Just six of those appearances have come in 2020/21.
According to reports, Bernard will bid farewell to Everton before Monday’s deadline. Al-Nassr will sign the diminutive schemer on an initial loan deal – one that can be made permanent for £4 million if he impresses in the Middle East.
There is no doubting Bernard’s technical ability but a lack of physicality and speed prevented him from really making an impression in English football.
With Alex Iwobi finally finding his feet and the highly-rated Anthony Gordon still waiting for a chance, it is hard to imagine that Bernard will be missed too keenly.
