Report: £11m Watford and Celtic target is training alone; no future at current club

Robin Olsen is no longer training with the rest of Roma’s first team squad as the reported Watford and Celtic target has no future at the Stadio Olimpico, according to Calciomercato.

With just three weeks remaining in the transfer window, this 38-time Sweden international is facing a race against time if he is to escape his Stadio Olimpico purgatory.

Olsen knows he can’t afford a season spent on the sidelines, especially with his place as Sweden’s number one under threat heading into the European Championships next summer.

Fortunately, he has a couple of intriguing options on the table.

InsideRoma suggested on Wednesday that Watford could come to his rescue, offering to sign the £11 million shot-stopper on loan with an option to buy if Vladimir Ivic leads the Hornets back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Scottish champions Celtic are interested too, according to the Scotsman in July.

But, after the £6 million arrival of Vasilis Barkas, Olsen would hardly find first-team football easier to come by in Glasgow than he does with the Giallorossi.

The two-time Danish league champion has yet to make a single Serie A appearance since Paulo Fonseca took over at Roma last year, with Calciomercato reporting Olsen is being forced to train alone, away from the first-team group.

“Good question. I do not know (what my future holds),” the four-time Swedish goalkeeper of the year told Expressen after returning from a loan spell at Cagliari.

“What happens remains to be seen.”
