Harry Kane may not be the only big-name Tottenham Hotspur player who wants to leave the club.
Kane was widely reported in May to have told Spurs about his desire to quit the North Londoners, with whom he has spent his entire career.
And now another senior Tottenham player has reportedly done the same.
According to The Athletic, Toby Alderweireld has revealed to the club that he wishes to leave the Lilywhites this summer.
Alderweireld joined back in 2015 in a £11 million deal but the Belgium international – who is at Euro 2020 – intends to continue his career elsewhere.
The report adds that the 32-year-old may favour a return to Royal Antwerp, whose crest he has tattooed on him.
Good or bad?
It’s hard to know how Tottenham fans will react to this development.
On the one hand, Alderweireld is definitely Spurs’ best centre-back but, on the other, that says more about the other options than it does about him.
And if we’re honest, the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t inspire confidence that Tottenham are going to rapidly get back to where they were under Mauricio Pochettino, who got them to a Champions League final in his last full season.
The Portuguese is a talented coach, but the Lilywhites, who replaced Pochettino with Jose Mourinho, are used to elite managers these days and Nuno isn’t big enough of a name to keep the big names on the field at the club.
