Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea on Sunday was slightly marred.
Jurgen Klopp’s outfit defeated the Londoners 11-10 during a thrilling penalty shootout to lift the trophy at Wembley, after a pulsating 0-0 draw.
However, Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool’s left-back, has found himself in hot water.
During the presentation, the former Olympiacos defender was seen on Sky Sports spitting out over the royal box, to the stand below.
Neutral supporters on Twitter were outraged.
According to The Daily Mail though, Liverpool have insisted the player was disposing of chewing gum rather than spitting and is ‘apologetic’ over his actions nonetheless.
The report adds that the Merseyside club have reminded Tsimikas of his responsibilities after the incident.
Tsimikas, an £11 million signing during the summer of 2020 [Sky Sports], has been excellent when called upon this season and this won’t define his entire campaign.
The Greece international had a rotten first year at Liverpool, culminating in only five minutes of Premier League football.
However, the 25-year-old, who was an unused substitute against Chelsea, has looked immense at times this season, providing a much better level of competition for Andy Robertson in that left-back role.
