Idrissa Gana Gueye is fuming after being put up for sale by Paris Saint Germain though, according to Le10 Sports, his £110,000-a-week wages are threatening a potential move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

When you consider how desperate this Senegal international was to grab a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when PSG came calling last summer, it is easy to understand why his sudden availability has not gone down well.

Gueye did everything in his power to force a move from Everton to the Ligue 1 champions 11 months ago. But, after just 31 games for Les Parisiens, Le10 Sport claims that the dominant force of French football have already placed the £30 million man on the transfer market.

This is no criticism of Gueye’s performances.

He, at times, has looked like the missing piece in PSG’s jigsaw with his all-action display in the 3-0 thrashing of Real Madrid last autumn one of the finest individual performances in the Champions League this season.

But with PSG looking to raise funds to sign Lazio talisman Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Gueye could be something of a sacrificial lamb. And he is far from pleased about how things have turned out across the Channel.

Le10 Sport claims that Wolves are interested in signing a man whose English football journey began with near neighbours Aston Villa. But Gueye is desperate to stay at PSG and, with all due respect, even an ambitious and forward thinking Wolves side would represent a sizeable backwards step.

His £110,000-a-week wages could also be a problem. As Spotrac points out, that would make him the highest earner in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.
