Newcastle United could suffer a blow in their quest to sign West Ham United target Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, according to Eurosport.

What’s the story?

Eurosport are reporting that Lingard wants to leave United in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder is struggling for playing time at Old Trafford and is open to leaving the Premier League giants.

West Ham are keen on the England international and so are Newcastle.

According to the report, Lingard, who can also play as a winger, would prefer a move to the Hammers.

West Ham are challenging for the Premier League top four and are also playing in the Europa League.

The attacker spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hammers as well.

Blow for Newcastle, optimism for West Ham

The Telegraph reported last month that Newcastle have discussed signing Lingard – who earns £110,000 per week as salary, according to The Sun.

This latest report in Eurosport will be a blow for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

But West Ham will be delighted.

The Hammers are doing well, but a player like Lingard can only make David Moyes’s side better.
