It’s a huge season ahead for Tottenham Hotspur winger Jack Clarke, wherever he spends it.

Clarke joined Spurs from Leeds United a £10 million deal during the summer of 2019 under Mauricio Pochettino.

But by virtue of the fact that he still hasn’t made a full competitive debut for Tottenham, you could argue that things haven’t gone well for the 20-year-old.

The youngster had two poor loan spells in the Championship with Leeds and QPR during his first season on the North Londoners’ books, before having another underwhelming spell in the second tier with Stoke City last term.

Having cost an eight-figure sum, there is pressure on Clarke to start delivering and another loan away from N17 has been mooted in recent weeks.

But The Athletic has reported that the former Leeds gem – who began his career at Elland Road – is keen to stay and fight for a first-team spot under Nuno Espirito Santo this season.

Courageous

Well, they say fortune favours the brave – and this is a very brave move.

Logically you would think Clarke is nowhere near being ready to start games for Tottenham in the Premier League.

Then again, he clearly has a hell of a lot of talent and if he endears himself to Nuno, that’ll spike his confidence and from there, who knows.

But one thing is obvious: Clarke must have a stunning pre-season if he’s going to earn senior chances next season and some stand-out performances in upcoming friendlies is a must.
