£10 million Copenhagen defender Victor Nelsson is waiting to move to the Premier League with Crystal Palace keen on the talented centre-back, as reported by the Sun (11 June, page 61).

With September now just six weeks away, Patrick Vieira and co had better get their skates on.

Palace have just 17 first-team players at their disposal and, after the likes of Gary Cahill, Mamadou Sakho, Andros Townsend and Scott Dann became free agents a fortnight ago, time is running out as the Eagles look to put together a squad capable of retaining their top-flight status.

The Londoners did at least manage to get Michael Olise through the door – triggering the £8 million release clause in the contract of one of the Championship’s most exciting young talents – and are now expected to step up their pursuit of further additions.

Could Victor Nelsson replace Gary Cahill at Crystal Palace?

The Sun reports that Arsenal bench-warmer Eddie Nketiah and Denmark ace Kasper Dolberg – who worked with Vieira at Nice – have emerged as candidates to reinforce a far-from prolific front line.

Crystal Palace are looking to strengthen their hand at the other end of the pitch too, with 22-year-old Nelsson also in contention.

A classy, ball-playing centre-half with one cap for the Danish national team, Nelsson is hoping for a move to the Premier League and would choose Palace over a number of Bundesliga clubs.

Copenhagen will demand around £10 million and are unlikely to stand in his way if Palace come calling.

Aston Villa have also been linked and it remains to be seen if the Midland giants launch an enquiry of their own in the weeks to come.

After bidding farewell to Bjorn Engels, Villa boss Dean Smith wants to add some depth to a defence which boasts more quality than quantity.
