According to Foot Mercato, Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu current favours a move to Southampton despite interest from Everton.
It’s claimed that Salisu is ‘attracted to the Premier League’, and Southampton are his preferred destination as things stand despite Everton entering the race.
Salisu is still interested in signing for Ligue 1 side Rennes, as they have an ‘ambitious project’ that could still tempt him away from the Premier League.
The Ghanaian has a £10million release clause in his deal, and The Mirror stated over the weekend that Everton have asked to be kept informed of his situation.
For now, it seems that Southampton are in the lead. The Saints won’t have huge money to spend this summer due to the global pandemic, but may be able to sanction a £10million deal.
With Jannik Vestergaard potentially moving on, Salisu could be a bargain addition in defence, joining the likes of Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens.

It’s clearly a position that needs some attention, and Salisu – a 6ft 3in defender with great strength and aerial ability – could be a star of the future at just 21.
His ability as a left-footed defender would add balance to any back line, and that’s exactly what Everton want next to Mason Holgate.
However, with Southampton seeming making inroads with Salisu, the Toffees may need to move quickly to beat the Saints to a deal.
