According to Football London, there is a belief that Joe Rodon will return to Tottenham for pre-season earlier than expected.

What’s the story?

Well, Rodon was expected back at Hotspur Way towards the end of July, after his exploits for Wales at EURO 2020.

However, Football London‘s Alasdair Gold believes the £9,615-a-week man could return to north London earlier than he’s supposed to.

Why? Well, it is said that Rodon wants to get a head start working alongside Nuno Espírito Santo.

The 23-year-old didn’t play much football last season, so he isn’t as drained and in need of a rest as someone like Harry Kane will be, for example.

Admirable from Joe Rodon

Evidently, there is a desire from Rodon to put the 2020/21 season behind him and become a regular in Tottenham’s starting XI next term.

After his £11 million arrival from Swansea, the centre-back only made eight starts in the Premier League.

That was quite baffling. We feel he deserved to start far more regularly.

Yes, he was a new face coming from the Championship, but Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez were comical at times.

In our view, it was a surprise that José Mourinho didn’t put a bit more faith in him.

After an impressive EURO 2020 with Wales, Rodon deserves a chance to show what he can do under Nuno.

It should also be noted that Nuno favours a 3-4-3 system.

In that respect, there could be an extra opening for a centre-back, compared to last season where Tottenham operated with only two central defenders.
