It has been reported that Everton want to secure the services of the Argentine international goalkeeper, and that the Toffees have ‘made contact with intermediaries to discuss a potential deal’ for the 33-year-old.
“Marcel Brands, Everton’s director of football, signed Romero in 2007 when he held the same role at AZ Alkmaar,” adds the report in The Times.
However, according to the report, there are two potential problems. Romero does not want to take a pay-cut and wants to maintain his £100,000-a-week salary, and Everton are likely to find United’s asking price of £10 million too expensive and will have to sell players to raise the funds.

Jordan Pickford is the first-choice goalkeeper at Everton at the moment, and he is pretty much guaranteed of playing regularly.
The England international needs competition, especially as he has made mistakes from time to time.
Romero has been the back-up to David de Gea at United in recent years, and with Dean Henderson now at Old Trafford, it is going to be even tougher for the Argentina international to get playing time.
A move to Everton would make sense from a playing perspective for the 33-year-old.
