According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Lucas Digne would prefer a move to London as West Ham and Newcastle target the Everton defender.

What’s the story?

Well, this is a blow for Newcastle, but a boost for West Ham.

Hope believes the £100,000-a-week man would prefer a move to the capital rather than a move to Tyneside.

Fabrizio Romano also claims that Newcastle have no chance of signing the France international, who is available following a fallout with Rafa Benitez.

You can see Hope’s tweet in full below.

In addition to this news, it is being reported by the Daily Mail that West Ham have now opened talks with the 28-year-old.

However, Newcastle have also made their move – a bid of £22.5m has been submitted for the left-back, according to The Telegraph.

The Daily Mail believe Chelsea are also monitoring the situation after Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the rest of the season.

West Ham or Newcastle for Lucas Digne?

In our view, this comes down to what type of character Digne is.

At Newcastle, he risks losing his status as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League if the Magpies suffer relegation.

Of course, his bank balance will be boosted thanks to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

However, if he opts for a move to West Ham, Digne would be involved in the Europa League Round of 32, as well as a genuine push for Champions League qualification.

Admittedly, Newcastle can also push for those heights if they survive this season, which is perhaps why Kieran Trippier has agreed to join.

Crucially, the fact Digne prefers London to Tyneside could end up being the deciding factor in this transfer saga.
