The Lyon left-back Fernando Marçal is joining Wolverhampton Wanderers on a three-year deal, according to L’Equipe.
Marçal, who started all four of Lyon’s Champions League knockout games last season, is said to be undergoing a medical at Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
And it is claimed that, should the Brazilian pass the examination, Wolves will pay €2 million (around £1.8m) to buy out the final year of his contract in France.
Signing Marçal would strengthen the Molineux side in a position in which they find themselves depleted after the knee injury suffered by Jonny Castro Otto at the end of last term.
But the 31-year-old can also provide cover at centre-back, if required.
Marçal was on Benfica’s books at the same time as the current Wolves striker, Raul Jimenez, although he never played a game for the Eagles.
He could soon be joined at Wolves by another Portuguese-speaking player in Joao Palhinha.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are closing in on the Sporting midfielder, according to The Sunday Mirror (6 September, page 66).
It is claimed that Palhinha has turned down a £9m move to CSKA Moscow and that talks with Wolves are set to resume this week.
