Tottenham Hotspur really need to qualify for the Champions League.
Spurs are fourth in the Premier League standings and boast a three-point cushion to Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.
Much of 2022 has been dominated by speculation about Conte quitting Tottenham this summer over his frustrations with the club’s January transfer business.
However, the Italian manager’s future hasn’t been subject to as much debate in recent weeks, with the Lilywhites winning four of their last five Premier League outings.
But the 52-year-old manager still needs reason to stick around – and perhaps only Champions League football will do that.
That’s because reports from Italy today have reiterated that Conte could return to his homeland.
According to Sport Mediaset, Conte would happily sacrifice his £1.6 million-a-month salary to re-join former club Juventus.
Massimiliano Allegri hasn’t enjoyed a successful return to Turin and Conte, according to the report, would be ‘delighted to return’.
Conte’s contract in North London is reportedly worth £30 million over 18 months.
He’s earning massive money at Tottenham and the idea that he would give up that sort of salary to return to Italy speaks volumes about how much he loves Juve.
This is a world-class manager and one who Daniel Levy needs to keep at all costs.
But you get the impression that top-four status, combined with assurances over summer spending, are the only things that would convince Conte to stick around.
