Tottenham Hotspur youngster Reo Griffiths has underlined his outstanding potential by opening his account in the UEFA Youth League.

The striker is just 16, but is already considered good enough to feature for the club’s under-19 side in European competition.

He struck two goals this week away to CSKA Moscow, combining effectively with Marcus Edwards. His brace was not enough to help the side avoid a 3-2 loss, but on an individual level it was a major step.

Griffiths made his debut for Tottenham’s under-18s last season at just 15, and netted more than 30 goals for the club’s under-16 side.

Tottenham snapped him up from Leyton Orient’s academy, and it could be a move which pays dividends.

Still too young to sign a professional contract, Griffiths is giving himself every chance of going to the very top, and has represented England at under-16 level.

At Spurs he is in a queue behind Shayon Harrison and Kazaiah Sterling to be recognised as the top young striker waiting to break through, but at is very early in his progression, and there is no chance of him featuring for the first team this season.

Instead the goal should be simply to rack up as many minutes and goals as possible and earn a call-up to the under-23 team. His double this week was a step in the right direction.
