Micah Richards hilariously refused to criticise Illan Meslier on BBC One’s Final Score for his performance during Leeds’ 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday because he ‘rents one of my houses’.
After a number of positive and uplifting performances during the festive period, Leeds were well beaten against a Jose Mourinho side chasing the Premier League title.
There were question marks as to whether Meslier could have done better for two of the goals he conceded yesterday, including his wayward pass which led to the opening penalty.
But a certain former Manchester City defender, who is seemingly now plying his trade in the housing market after retirement, didn’t have a bad word to say about the Leeds man.
On whether he would have a word as a Leeds defender with Meslier for the Tottenham goals: “No, no, No, I am not doing that,” said Richards.
“Meslier rents one of my houses in Harrogate, so he will be getting no stick whatsoever from me.”

In regards to Meslier’s performance, it needs to be remembered that he is still a young kid playing for a side that doesn’t exactly protect its goalkeeper.
Whilst Leeds’ forward-thinking and foot-on-the-accelerator style is fun to watch, it does result in Meslier having to do a lot of work.
And the more he has to do in between the sticks, the more chance he has of making a mistake, but this is still a learning process for the youngster and for a team that is also newly-promoted and inexperienced.
