Liverpool still have not announced the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

A first-team signing for the Reds is finally set to be completed just before the winter transfer window closes, after a very late move.

The centre-back had been on Chelsea’s radar for some time, but it appears he’s now heading to Anfield instead.

Jamie Redknapp has praised the move, while Jamie Carragher says Liverpool needed a defender who could play right away.

Jacquet will spend the rest of the season in France and will not join the Premier League champions until June 2026.

Although the deal hasn’t been finalised, Rennes manager Habib Beye has addressed the situation, speaking to Le Telegramme.

He explained: “This deal is not done, I don’t want to comment on something that is not real, it’s a supposition.

“He will not be here for training today, we don’t know if he can play tomorrow but we’ll see depending on the situation.”

Beye did not give much away about the transfer itself, but hinted that it is a scenario that suits all parties involved.

“The fact of negotiating his transfer now and obtaining the sum that the club wants, (respecting) the player’s wish and still having him (for the end of the season), is perhaps the best deal we can have,” he stated.

How deal sheets work in transfer windows

Liverpool still have time to finalise the Jacquet signing, even if it does not happen by the 7pm deadline.

Deal sheets can be used to extend the window, giving clubs a bit of extra time to get everything sorted.

The deal sheet must be completed after 5pm on Monday, during the final two hours of the window, and submitted before the 7pm deadline.

Once the Premier League receive the initial documentation, clubs are granted an additional two hours to finalise the transfer and submit all required paperwork.
