Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Kicker revealed that the Reds are eyeing up a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus.
The 3-cap Germany international is also wanted by Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.
Neuhaus would command a fee of €40 million (£35 million) if he leaves the Bundesliga, as that is the release clause in his contract.
The 23-year-old has six goals and six assists to his name in 28 appearances this season, which is a pretty respectable output.
Currently, Liverpool don’t really need another central midfielder.
When Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies settle, Jurgen Klopp can restore Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the midfield.
The German could then parter the duo with Thiago, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Curtis Jones or Georginio Wijnaldum.
Klopp is spoilt for choice in midfield.
However, Wijnaldum’s contract expires in June, and he is yet to sign an extension.
In that respect, perhaps Neuhaus is being lined up as a potential replacement for the Netherlands international.
However, £35 million is a lot of money, which would probably be better spent on securing a top-class centre-back or centre-forward.
