Some Aston Villa fans on social media have been praising Ollie Watkins after their 2-1 loss to Manchester United on New Year’s Day.
The striker failed to find the back of the net once again against the Red Devils, but there were very few complaints about his overall performance on social media.
Usually, you would expect a fanbase to get on a striker’s back after a goalless performance, but it seems as though spirits are remaining high amongst the fanbase, with fans willing to give him credit for the other elements of his game.
To be fair, Watkins did play well against Manchester United, he was constantly harrying the defenders, and if it weren’t for a brilliant David De Gea save early in the second half, he would’ve been on the scoresheet.
The main thing people were talking about online was how hard he was working, and while there was the odd criticism about his finishing ability, fans were more than happy to give him credit for putting in a shift against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
