Liverpool were close to signing Fulham talent Fabio Carvalho on deadline day last week, and the youngster rubbed salt in Jurgen Klopp’s wounds with an impressive display against Manchester City.
The Portuguese-born playmaker scored the opening goal at the Etihad Stadium as Carvalho got Fulham off to an early lead against City in their own backyard.
Although Fulham would go on to lose the match 4-1, Carvalho’s performance was impressive for the Cottagers, with Liverpool fans on social media blown away by the 19-year-old’s display against one of the best clubs in Europe.
As reported by Sky Sports News, Carvalho was close to signing for Liverpool on deadline day, with Klopp believed to be a big fan of the youngster and eager to add him to the Reds’ already impressive army of promising players.
However, the late deal eventually collapsed, with Carvalho now staying with Fulham until the end of the season and Liverpool likely to mount a summer move for the playmaker.
Indeed, it would have been ideal for Liverpool to sign Carvalho in January. And based on his performance against City, the England youth international is ready for the step up to Premier League football already.
Liverpool have already had success from signing players from Fulham’s academy, with Harvey Elliott starting Klopp’s first four Premier League games before an ankle injury curtailed his season.

Whilst the Reds missed out on Carvalho in January, there is a strong chance the youngster will eventually make the move to Anfield in the summer.
And based on his FA Cup performance for Fulham against City, Carvalho has already won many Liverpool fans onto his side, with supporters pleased with what they saw from the youngster on Saturday.
