Crystal Palace legend, John Salako, has compared Tottenham and Newcastle United transfer target, Tyrick Mitchell, to England legend Ashley Cole, as he told talkSPORT.
From a defensive aspect, the former England international compared the Palace left-back to the multiple trophy winner at Chelsea.
On Saturday, Mitchell made his Three Lions debut when he came off the bench during his side’s 2-1 win friendly win over Switzerland at Wembley.
Mitchell wasn’t the only Palace player on show that afternoon because Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher also started for their country.
That was the first time two Palace players have started for England, since Geoff Thomas and Salako himself back in 1991, as the former midfielder had this to say about Mithcell.
“There is an opportunity for Tyrick Mitchell (to play at left-back for England going forward),” said Salako.
“Defensively he is awesome. He reminds me of Ashley Cole defensively.
“What I would say to Tyrick when he played left wing-back, ‘go and take people on’. I know he put that cross in for Kane. But fantastic for the (Palace) boys.”

At just 22, Mitchell is showcasing great composure in his game and he is a player that has gone up a few notches under Patrick Vieira.
With the England spotlight on his head, it comes with scrutiny and his qualities being put out on a bigger stage.
Therefore, it’s not a surprise that the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham are seemingly expressing interest in wanting to sign the player.
Given the strides Mitchell has made to his game, he is probably better off staying at Selhurst Park, even though he would make both Tottenham and Newcastle better on the left flank.
Whilst the Magpies have all the money in the world now, they are still in a similar position to Palace.
Whereas Spurs aren’t exactly winning trophies galore that would lure Mitchell to the other side of London, so he is better off staying put.
