Despite their 2-1 loss on Friday, some Leeds United fans on Twitter have been raving over Luke Ayling’s performance against West Ham.

The long-haired defender had to fill-in at centre-back after injuries to Robin Koch and Diego Llorente, and it’s fair to say that he did a decent job in his makeshift position.

Ok, he did concede two goals, but his overall performance was good enough to have some United fans praising him on social media.

Ayling was quite brilliant to say he isn’t a centre-back, he made a goal-saving block in the second half, while his four interceptions and two tackles highlighted just how much work he was doing at the back.

Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain as Leeds came away from the match with no points, but Ayling can hold his head high knowing that he did a great job at centre-back.

His performance drew comparisons to Elland Road heroes of yesteryear, with one fan comparing him to Dominic Matteo, while another went as far as to say that his versatility reminded them of Alan Smith.

Here’s what United supporters have been saying on social media.
