‘Remember what I said’: Agbonlahor rubs salt into the wounds after Liverpool’s loss to Leeds

Gabby Agbonlahor has rubbed salt into Liverpool’s wounds and reminded Jurgen Klopp’s side that they won’t finish in the Premier League’s top-four this season after their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United on Saturday evening, as he posted on Twitter.

The former Aston Villa striker has had his war-of-words with Jurgen Klopp before and he was sure to increase the volume as the Reds fell to back-to-back defeats in the league yesterday. 

Bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest were victorious last week and now Leeds, who hadn’t won since August, inflicted a fourth league loss in eight for the struggling Merseyside club.

It now means that Liverpool are sitting ninth in the table, eight points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United who have played a game extra and a further 13 points behind the current Premier League champions, Manchester City.

As Jamie Carragher was constantly eluding to during his Sky Sports Premier League commentary stint, these are ‘massive problems’ for his former club.

Even the most ardent of Liverpool fans will admit that they are in trouble and, at this rate, they will struggle to secure Champions League football, as Agbonlahor thinks they will miss out.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE VIA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

Many moons ago, Liverpool created one of the greatest nights in their history when they secured Champions League glory in Istanbul in 2005. 

That season, a certain Everton finished fourth, ahead of their Merseyside rivals, but because of Liverpool’s stunning comeback win against AC Milan, they were the ones playing Champions League football for the following campaign.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Jurgen Klopp finds that they may have to go down a similar round this season, especially given that the final is in Istanbul once again.

For some, it might be destiny that Liverpool will add another European crown to their name in Turkey, they came very close in Paris last season, and the last time they lost to Real Madrid in a final, they won the whole thing 12 months later.
