Leeds United are reportedly tracking Jese Rodriguez.

Jese Rodriguez’s career has gone badly off the rails.

His recent links to Championship side Leeds United (via Estadio Deportivo) highlight how much he has fallen since he made his name at Real Madrid and looked like one of their top prospects.

But Leeds could be the best thing to happen to Jese, and he needs them more than they actually need him.

Jese Rodriguez’s career is struggling for direction. Real sold him to PSG after he failed to impress after a serious knee injury, and he has not given them reason to regret their decision.

He has not managed to get near the PSG first team in recent seasons, sent out on loan to Las Palmas, Stoke City, and Real Betis.

His spell at Stoke was a disaster, with The Sentinel reporting he is one of their most unpopular signings in recent seasons.

Two goals in 18 appearances at Real Betis on loan this past season was not eye catching, but it was a minor improvement on his Stoke spell.

Leeds might consider him to not be worth the hassle. Will he be willing to get stuck into a 46 game season in the Championship?

The Whites could find a player with cheaper wages from a Premier League side, and potentially one who is hungrier. They might even be better off giving youngster Mateusz Bogusz a big role.

Jese needs Bielsa to reinvigorate his career. The highly regarded Argentine boss is certainly capable of it.

If the player wants it, he can make it work and get back to his top level. It might take a revolutionary coach like Bielsa to drag it out of him. But the 26-year-old needs Leeds more than they need him, which is remarkable considering the heights Rodriguez has reached in the game.
