Liverpool will probably be signing a midfielder this summer.
Jurgen Klopp failed to replace Gini Wijnaldum last year and with Thiago Alcantara injured once again, and Jordan Henderson the wrong side of 30, Liverpool do need to seriously think about replacing the Dutch international this time around.
One player who was linked with a move to Anfield in 2021 was Ajax starlet Ryan Gravenberch.
According to Soccer News last year, Klopp is an admirer of the 19-year-old who has potential coming out of his ears.
The same is true of Jaap Stam, who told Tutto Juve that the youngster is simply a ‘remarkable’ prospect, but believes that he should remain in Amsterdam for at least another year.
He said: “Although he is very young, he is already a great player. He has good running, remarkable technical skills and is good at insertions. In England they would call him a box to box player. Another year in the Netherlands would make him more prepared for the transfer to another league, but perhaps it is easier to go to a big European football team like Juventus.”
Anfield move could happen
This has Liverpool written all over it if the German manager does renew an interest.
Klopp is steadiy and quietly building a Reds side for the future, with the likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Ibrahima Konate and Harvey Elliott among those who could have a big part to play in it.
And at 19, Gravenberch certainly has the youth and quality that’ll interest the Liverpool boss as he bids to build his second great team on Merseyside.
With under 18 months left on his contract, there’s going to be a lot of interest in the Dutch teenager this summer.
And don’t be surprised if Liverpool are heading the queue.
