AS Monaco have asked Tottenham Hotspur about the availability of defender Eric Dier.

That is according to one report from 90min.

It claims that Monaco have enquired about signing Eric Dier this summer, though they are not the only club who are thought to be interested in the centre-back.

The same outlet states that he has caught the attention of Crystal Palace, Celtic and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr.

Dier was left out of Tottenham‘s squad for their Premier League opener against Brentford, which ended 2-2.

Ange Postecoglou wants to keep hold of Eric Dier

Despite omitting him from the roster for the recent draw at the Gtech Community Stadium, Postecoglou has claimed that Dier is still part of his plans.

“Eric is in the same boat as all the other boys,” the Spurs boss was quoted as saying by BBC Sport after the match in west London. “Eric is part of this team. He’s working hard in training and is available for selection.”

If he is leaving him out of the squad, though, it is going to be hard to convince Dier to stick around, especially when he is attracting interest from other clubs.

While the England international may not be a key player for Postecoglou at this moment in time, you can easily imagine him becoming an important figure at one of the teams he is being linked to.

That is because Dier is a very experienced and versatile footballer who can play at the back and in midfield. It is no wonder that his former manager Antonio Conte once described him as a “reliable player”.

When you consider the fact that Dier can be deployed in central defence and the middle of the park, it would not be a shock if Postecoglou asked him to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond this summer. But if the 29-year-old wants a more important role, he may have to leave the Premier League outfit.
