Aston Villa, QPR, West Brom, West Ham, Norwich City, Swansea City, Southampton and Reading – Which of these sides will be relegated next year?
Having seen the relegation odds for the up and coming season I have to say I disagree with a quite a few of them. I’ll start with the outsiders first.
Aston Villa 8/1; I can’t see them being in trouble again after appointing Paul Lambert. I can see them having a decent Cup run too.
QPR 4/1; With the players Mark Hughes has brought in and with a few more expected I can’t see the Hoops in the fight, and I say that as a football fan and not as a QPR fan.
West Brom 7/2; I think the board have been very brave in appointing Steve Clarke as the boss; don’t get me wrong, his football experience is second to none but he’s never been a number one before. The odds are therefore correct.
West Ham 9/4; Unless they do some serious buying I can see them going straight down again.
Swansea 2/1; The Swans and Michael Laudrup will have to get used to each other quickly but I think the odds are a little unfair; they should have enough to finish mid-table.
Norwich 13/8; Is there life after Paul Lambert? Chris Hughton did a great job at Newcastle and again at Birmingham but this might be one that is even beyond him. Their opening fixtures are very tough.
Wigan 13/8; I don’t know how they do it season in and season out but may be this is the season their luck runs out.
Southampton 5/4; A side that will surprise a few people, they do play some lovely football. Back to back promotions to the big league are great by any standard but this is a test they might not pass.
Reading- Evens; out of the three teams that have been promoted I think Reading stand the best chance of staying up. Brian McDermott is adding to the squad with players that have Premiership experience.
In my opinion the Premier League is the best in the world; it’s the most entertaining and has the biggest audience worldwide.
The hard part is getting there; the harder part is staying there. I wish every team good luck but at the end of the season we have to lose three and mine are; Norwich, Wigan and West Ham.
