Rae left and then briefly returned to Leeds United in the summer just gone.

More than four months after Leeds United released him, Joshua Rae made his long-awaited senior debut on Saturday.

Rae has appeared on trial for Blackburn Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Hibernian and Barnsley – as well as Leeds – since leaving Elland Road, where his only outings were at youth-team level.

And after a goalkeeping crisis emerged at Queen’s Park it was the teenage shot-stopper to whom the Scottish side turned at the weekend.

Unlike in the English Football League, trialists are permitted to feature in SPFL league games below its top two divisions – although they can only play three times for any one club per season and cannot be paid.

And it was in accordance with those rules that Rae was allowed to participate in Queen’s Park’s 5-2 win against Brechin City on Saturday.

Although, what happens now to the Scottish player Leeds recruited from Celtic in 2017 remains to be seen.
