Reiss Nelson has admitted that he is open to signing a new contract with Arsenal, with the winger heading into the final 18 months of his current deal.
Speaking to the Athletic, the 22-year-old attacker revealed that he wants to commit his future to the north London side after Nelson was the hero on Sunday against Nottingham Forest, with the winger replacing an injured Bukayo Saka in the first half to score a brace and bag an assist.
Nelson’s future has been up in the air for quite some time, yet the youngster’s display on the weekend seemed to offer hope to many Arsenal fans that the winger is not only hitting his best form, but that he could also sign a new long-term contract with the Gunners.
Indeed, although Nelson’s career has not gone in the direction many expected after his explosive time in the youth teams, the winger’s performance on Sunday was the first real glimpse to Arsenal fans that the attacker could become a member of the senior team.

And according to Nelson himself, he is eager to sign a new contract with Arsenal if the club were to hand the youngster the chance to extend his stay with the north London side, something that many supporters would also love to see given the forward’s Hale End roots.
Nelson said when asked about signing a new Arsenal contract: “I only have some months left on my contract. Getting a new deal would be amazing and I would love to commit to the club. Any opportunity I get I’m going to try and take and just do my very best and just keep helping the team really.”
Nelson should sign new Arsenal contract if he continues to impress

Nelson’s performance on Sunday caught everybody by surprise, with the winger bagging only his second and third Premier League goals ever as the England youth international inspired Arsenal to a 5-0 win against Forest. And if the youngster can maintain this level of form, a new contract will be his before he knows it.
With Mikel Arteta making youth and academy graduates a central part of his Arsenal philosophy, the Basque manager will be keen to see Nelson continue to turn heads. And Saka’s injury could offer the attacker an opportunity to feature more in the coming weeks.
