On-loan Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina has stressed that Liverpool will be in charge of deciding where he plays next season.
Pepe Reina has become a key figure for Rafa Benitez’s Napoli, but he is only at the Stadio San Paolo on loan until the end of the season.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, which he would be expected to welcome, but he could also return to Liverpool permanently.
Reina kept a clean sheet last night as Napoli won 1-0 in the Coppa Italia to knock out holders Lazio.
“I’m happy here but everyone knows that I have to return to Liverpool at the end of the season to decide what to do next,” Reina said on Rai.
“It’s hard to say whether I could stay at Napoli. It’s a decision that is completely down to Liverpool but for now I will do everything I can to win something with Napoli.”
Reina reassured Napoli fans that should he leave they would be in safe hands with his back-up Rafael.
“He’s very good,” he insisted. “I’m lucky enough to work with him every day and I can tell you that he will be ready by next year – he’s doing a good job.”
