Gary Neville has claimed that it’s ‘refreshing’ to hear Mo Salah wanting to be ‘the best in the world’ after hearing that from Cristiano Ronaldo, when he was first at Manchester United, as he told Sky Sports.
Two of the greatest stars in the footballing world – Salah and Ronaldo – will take to the field on Sunday when Liverpool travel to Manchester United.
It is the heavyweight showdown in England’s top-flight and a clash full of blockbuster names, no more so than the duo above.
Leading up to the game, many feel that Salah, who has 12 goals in 11 games in all competitions this season, is possibly the form player in the world.
But as always, Ronaldo has backed himself as the best, and the records prove it, including since returning to the Premier League.
Neville shared a dressing room with a young and fresh-faced Ronaldo. He stated how it was ‘unusual’, when he made comment about wanting to be ‘the best in the world’, something which Salah has now said, as he told Sky Sports.
And now that the Sky pundit is hearing it from Salah, he believes both have a right to talk in such a fashion, and he likes what is being said.
“Cristiano was the first ever person I ever heard say that he undoubtedly wanted to be the best player in the world,” said Neville. “It was quite unusual for a player to say that because everyone talks about the team.
“To hear Mo Salah say it there, it’s refreshing. I think you can say these things when you are delivering. And these two have delivered now consistently.
“Ronaldo for 10-15 years. And Mo Salah for 5-6 years, and beyond. They are absolutely deadly. They are ruthless.”
Ronaldo saved the evening in midweek, when he scored yet another winning goal in the Champions League as Man United beat Atalanta 3-2.
Meanwhile, they day before in Madrid, Salah was netting a brace against Diego Simeone’s men, as there is no stopping the £34 million man’s (BBC Sport) utterly blistering form.
It’s perhaps written in the stars for both players to get on the scoresheet this afternoon, because both teams would have to pull off something magic to stop from showcasing their worth.
The last time Liverpool faced a Manchester side, they recorded a 2-2 draw, in what was a pretty open and expansive game.
So, expect nothing but a written-in-the-stars and edge-of-your-seat 0-0 draw at Old Trafford today.
