Chris Foy was not impressed with the dancing of Emmanuel Adebayor – who scored twice as Tottenham beat Southampton 3-2 at St Marys.
Tottenham Hotspur have won their first Premier League game since the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas – and it was a player reduced to an outcast role under the stewardship of AVB who played the starring role.
Tim Sherwood drafted Emmanuel Adebayor back in to the starting line-up for Spurs this weekend – and he was awarded the man-of-the-match accolade post-game after bagging two goals for the club.
The Togolese has now scored three goals in the two games since being reinstated by Sherwood – and certainly he is a player who, when in the mood, can be unplayable.
But one aspect of his game that has never been particulary great would be his celebrations. Well I suppose that is where you stand on the subject of football celebrations.
Personally, I hate a choreographed pre-meditated celebration – give me an Alan Shearer arm-raise or Gary Lineker enthusiastic leap any day.
Adebayor on this occasion went for one of his favourites, a little dance.
His funky jig certainly didn’t impress me, and it didn’t impress Chris Foy either.
The referee gave him a look of absolute disgust as he performed his dance moves in front of the away fans.
At one point, I thought he was going to be sick.
If Adebayor went running into the crowd in an impassioned moment of joint-joy with his adoring fans he wold have got booked.
Foy was probably hoping he could have booked him for that instead.
Here it is … and watch out for Gary Neville’s excellent commentary, he’s got his swagger back indeed!
