Celtic hit out at the SFA referees on Friday by releasing a statement relating to the fallout of the Old Firm game.

Celtic’s strongly worded statement was in reaction to the SFA’s decision to take no action against Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos had three separate incidents against him reviewed. The SFA decided that because the referee saw all three, no punishment was required.

The stance taken by Celtic has been condemned by Ref Support UK, a registered charity which supports officials from grassroots to the professional game.

They called Celtic’s statement ‘inappropriate’ and a needless escalation of rhetoric towards referees.

Ref Support UK’s stance is not necessarily reflective of any views relating to the incidents in the Old Firm derby itself.

Instead the concern is that anger towards referees will build at various levels of the game and make officiating more difficult.
