Reece Oxford’s wait for league football continues after the on loan West Ham United defender ruled himself out of Reading’s trip to Huddersfield Town this evening (Tuesday).
Oxford’s only senior level appearances this season came during West Ham’s unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the Europa League proper, resulting in the 18-year-old’s temporary move to Reading on transfer deadline day.
Oxford is yet to feature for the Royals, however, remaining an unused substitute in three of their four Championship fixtures following his arrival.
And the England Under 18 star’s debut for the Berkshire side has been further pushed back due to what they player himself describes as a “minor niggle”.
Oxford posted on Twitter: “Gutted to not be involved tonight due to a minor niggle. Good luck Boys #3points”.
Oxford, who made his Premier League debut on the opening day of last season as a 16 year old, will be hoping to fire Reading back to the top flight after a four year absence.
Jaap Stam’s side will perhaps need to overcome a difficult run of fixtures to do so, with Huddersfield (third), Brighton & Hove Albion (second), Newcastle United (first) and Sheffield Wednesday (sixth) to come before next month’s break for internationals.
