Sunderland only brought Reece James to the Stadium of Light during the summer transfer window.

James only arrived at Sunderland in the summer transfer window, and may have been expecting some high profile departures at the Stadium of Light.
However, Cattermole, Oviedo and McGeady have all stuck around to help Sunderland out this season.
And James said: “He [Oviedo] is someone we all can learn from.
“I picked his brain when I first came here just asking what the World Cup in the summer was like. It’s unbelievable to have players like that, and Lee Cattermole and Aiden McGeady who were unbelievable Premier League players who shouldn’t be at this level.”

Oviedo is actually not a guaranteed starter for Sunderland, while McGeady has only featured in a rotational capacity.
Oviedo has competition for his place from Denver Hume, which shows the strength of Sunderland’s squad.
The Black Cats were the favourites for promotion at the start of the season, and Jack Ross’ side are already among the front runners in League One.
Sunderland are currently in fifth place in the table, but they have a game in hand over most their rivals, and sit just four points away from the automatic promotion places.
