Gary Lineker has given his take on Twitter on Chelsea defender Reece James being sent off against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

What’s the story?

Liverpool and Chelsea faced each other at Anfield in the Premier League this evening.

The Reds and the Blues are serious title contenders, and today’s game was going to be massive even this early in the season.

It was Chelsea who took the lead midway through the first half through Kai Havertz.

However, Liverpool restored parity deep into first-half injury time when Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot.

Gary Lineker’s verdict

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England international striker Lineker has given his reaction on Twitter to the controversial decision.

As you can see below, the Match of the Day presenter thinks that although it was a penalty, it was a not a red card.

Chelsea fans will dispute the decision, while Liverpool supporters will certainly take it.

Did it change the game? Going down to 10 men does tend to affect teams, but Chelsea did do well with a one-man disadvantage in the second half.
