Reds ace Joel Matip shared how Jürgen Klopp reacted to his side’s dismal defeat against Spurs eight days ago, admitting that the German did not hold back in his criticism of his players in the dressing room, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Liverpool were humbled by Tottenham, and eventually lost the game 4-1, with many fans and pundits alike hammering the Merseyside outfit for their total lack of defensive unity, and overall quality as a team.

The Reds did bounce back well with a convincing 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend, but their loss against Tottenham will still be hard to banish from the memory banks.

And Matip, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, shared how Klopp let his players have it, in the aftermath of their defeat at Wembley, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“We know we did it wrong and he (Klopp) didn’t hold back, he said it directly. You have to speak about these things directly, honestly, and that is what he did. He said it was not good enough – he spoke very honestly about the things that have to change, very directly, but after this he said we carry on and try to prepare for the next game.”

Klopp’s side currently sit in sixth position in the Premier League table – a massive 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City already, and they simply cannot afford to lose any more games against their title challengers if they are to stand a chance of finishing inside the top four this season.
