Redknapp makes big statement regarding Moyes’ Sunderland job; predicts Tottenham result

Tottenham Hotspur host Sunderland this weekend.

Former player and current pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Sunderland boss David Moyes has the toughest job in the Premier League and predicts a defeat at Tottenham Hotpsur this weekend, Sky Sports report.

Moyes was named as Sam Allardyce’s successor this summer as the former Bolton Wanderers manager took over the vacant England job after keeping Sunderland in the Premier League last season.

The Black Cats were tipped to be among the club’s fighting for relegation this season, and not many are particularly surprised at the club’s poor start to the current campaign.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Redknapp explained that he believes Moyes inherited a poor squad at Sunderland and suggests their lack of signings in the summer could see him become an early managerial casualty.

“I feel really sorry for David Moyes. I think he’s got the toughest job in the Premier League. They’ve not bought any good players, they’ve got injuries and they sold players before the window closed,” Redknapp said.

“That squad just isn’t good enough. Moyes is a very good manager, but what do they expect? I hope we don’t have a situation like we’ve had in recent years where they go and sack their manager in January and expect someone to come in and wave a magic wand.”

Sunderland have picked up just one point from their opening four games of the season, and on Sunday they travel to London to take on a Tottenham side looking to bounce back from their midweek European defeat.

Spurs have won two and drawn two of their opening four matches, and they showed their potential by thrashing Stoke City 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium last weekend before their defeat to Monaco.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have sometimes struggled to fire themselves up for matches they are expected to win, but despite this Redknapp cannot look beyond a Tottenham win on Sunday.

He added: “I’ve always felt Spurs are better in the big games. I still think they will win this game, but I don’t think it’s going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination.”
